I was their first daughter so this birthday was a big deal. We celebrated with family and friends at my uncle’s house down. My grandma, uncle, and other family members live close to me. At the time of this photo, I’m sure my sister and I weren't even a thought in my dad’s mind. He was young, enjoying the moment, and laughing it up with some of his closest friends from Bushwick, who later became my sister’s and my godparents. I’ve heard countless stories of all the havoc they would wreck in the neighborhood. It's nice to see that they’re all still really close. This photo is important to me because its simplicity represents a big part of my life. It captures the beginning of a friendship that would last until and after my sister and me were born. Description An account of the resource You can see my young father partaking in a Catholic procession that happens every Christmas Eve. This very religious and festive event still goes on today and my father went on to host it years after the taking of this photo. This photo means a lot to me because I looked forward to these processions as a child. I loved watching hundreds of family members and close friends take over Bushwick's streets with their dancing and music playing.
